OUR STORY

Furniture That Will Last A Lifetime

In late autumn 2002, Lesley Ferguson and Toby Lorford began a collaboration that was to challenge how the market for antiques presented its wares and engaged with its customers. At the heart of their attitude was a commitment to visually inspire and to offer truly great service. As the noughties passed, Lorfords Antiques focused hard on developing a digital shopfront that was able to reflect and promote the values that customers had come to expect in the shop – a wide choice, honesty and integrity and exceptional service.

In 2015 Toby and Lesley were approached by long-standing customer Marco Pierre White to help with the furnishing of a major historic renovation of a hotel in Singapore. Marco’s passion for upholstery by Howard and Sons led to Lorfords developing their own bespoke copies of England’s most classic and sought after maker.

The ensuing pieces were the beginning of a small collection of traditionally constructed and upholstered furniture that charmed the market with it’s attention to quality and comfort whilst remaining true to traditional methods and materials wherever possible.

" Traditional upholstery is a craft which has evolved over hundreds of years for padding and covering furniture before the development of sewing machines, synthetic fabrics, plastics and foam.

Using a solid wood or webbed platform, it can involve the use of springs, lashings, stuffings of various selections of hair and coir, wools , hessians, scrims, brittle ties, stuffing ties, blind stitching, top stitching, flocks and wadding; all built by hand.

At Lorfords Upholstery studio, it is our aim to continue using many of these traditional methods of upholstery and produce hand crafted furniture that will last a life time and will elevate your interiors with their quality and comfort."
