Collaboration: Thyme & Bertioli x Lorfords Contemporary
We are so excited to unveil our debut collaboration with our friends over at Bertioli, the sibling brand of destination hotel Thyme in the Cotswolds. Based just down the road from our workshop, we've been working with the team on this project for the past year, designing bespoke pieces of upholstery for a number of rooms at the hotel, with inspiration taken from Thyme's beautiful surroundings.
Created originally for the 'Carrot' and 'Radish' rooms at the hotel, both slipper sofa designs are covered in Bertioli’s own 100% linen fabrics featuring watercolour artworks hand-painted by Caryn Hibbert, founder of Thyme. Taking the hotel's vegetable gardens as inspiration, illustrations of carrots and radishes create the intricate stripes of the fabric, which reflect how vegetables are grown at Thyme in garden rows.
With solid beech wood frames from FSC certified sources, both seat and back of these sofas are built with hand-tied coil springs, natural inner fillings and topped with generously deep feather and down seat cushions. An accompanying slipper chair will be added to the collection later in 2024.
Both headboards in the collection have striking, tall silhouettes to create a bold but inviting focal point for the bedroom. An elegant homage to the recently installed pergola in the kitchen garden at Thyme, ‘The Pergola’ headboard was designed for the ‘Carrot’ suite with a sophisticated silhouette of sweeping curvature that directs the eye up to the ceiling of the room. Finished here in a burnt orange fabric that reflects the palette of the surrounding wallpaper pattern, this design can also be finished in any fabric required.
‘The Glasshouse’ headboard - which was designed for the 'Radish' room - has a dramatic angular silhouette which is based on the profile one of the greenhouses on the Thyme estate and features a distinctive custom wooden ball finial detail on top. Hand-crafted with a solid beech wood frame from FSC certified sources, traditionally webbed and layered with 100% natural latex foam.
To complete the collection, one of our best-selling sofa designs, ‘The Traditional Elmstead’ has been re-imagined in Bertioli’s ‘Oak Leaf’ fabric. With inspiration taken from trees found on the grounds of Thyme, the intertwined foliage creates a unique but sophisticated pattern in a calming, neutral palette. Handmade to order, the designs out-swept arms and gently sloping back provide serious comfort with hand-tied coil springs and generously deep seat cushions finished in feather and down.
